In our last article, we explored the different aspects within the game of Blackjack that will affect your odds.

How do you get the odds in your favor?
There is only one way, “Counting Cards”. What does Larry’s Las Vegas mean when we say counting cards? There are many ways and systems for counting cards, but they share the same basic principle. You give each card dealt (or exposed) a numerical value and subtract or add accordingly.

For beginners Larry’s Las Vegas will show you what the Pros call a basic Plus/Minus system.
Start with the number zero. Cards 2 through 5 are given a value of +1. Cards 6 through 8 are given a value of zero, and 9, 10, and aces are given a value of –1.

Larry’s Las Vegas Plus/Minus system works on the theory that given the fact that Dealers must hit sixteen the removal of 2’s through 6 will reduce the Dealers chances of hitting a sixteen with a 5. Nothing can be more frustrating than, for example, having a hand of 18 and watching the Dealer hit his hand of 13 with a 3 and a five, giving the House a total of 21.

You want to bet more when the count is “Plus” and less when the count is “Minus”.
Imagine seeing 10 cards, 7 of which are 2 through 5s (+7) 1 card which is a 6,7 or 8 (0) and two cards which are a 9, 10 or an ace (-2). This gives you a total count of +5, a favorable situation in which you should bet more. Vice Versa, if the count is in the minus, you should bet less.

Now comes the hard part. In order to become successful in Blackjack, you need to take Larry’s Las Vegas’ two tools, (Basic Strategy and Plus/Minus Counting) and practice, practice, practice!
