Craps and Blackjack are coming to West Virginia!
Voters approved a referendum allowing poker, blackjack and other table games at Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort on Saturday.
With all 28 precincts reporting, the measure passed 59 percent to 41 percent, according to Hancock County election officials.
Mountaineer’s corporate parent, MTR Gaming Group Inc., is in the process of selling its Binion’s Gambling Hall & Hotel for $32 million.
TR Gaming Group, Inc., through its subsidiaries, owns and operates racetrack, gaming, and hotel properties in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Ohio, Michigan, and Minnesota. It owns and operates the Mountaineer Racetrack & Gaming Resort in Chester, West Virginia; Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Erie, Pennsylvania; Binion’s Gambling Hall & Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada; the Ramada Inn and Speedway Casino in North Las Vegas, Nevada; and Scioto Downs in Columbus, Ohio.
The company’s Mountaineer Racetrack & Gaming Resort is a race track that was primarily operating slot machines.
Its Presque Isle Downs & Casino clubhouse consists of gaming space housing slot machines, dining options, and surface parking facilities.
The company’s Binion’s Horseshoe Hotel & Casino property consists of a hotel tower with rooms, meeting space, gift shops, multiple restaurants, and rooftop swimming pool amenities, as well as casino space, which operates 800 slot machines, 47 table games, and 35 poker tables.
MTR Gaming Group’s Ramada Inn and Speedway Casino property includes a hotel, as well as a casino with 388 slot machines, 6 table games, and 2 poker tables.
The company’s Scioto Downs property includes a racetrack; an enclosed clubhouse; and barns, paddock, and related facilities. It also owns an interest in Jackson Harness Raceway, which offers harness racing, parimutuel wagering, and casual dining services.
The company was founded in 1988. It was formerly known as Secamur Corporation and changed its name to Excalibur Security Services, Inc. in 1989. The name was further changed to Excalibur Holding Corporation in 1991; to Winners Entertainment, Inc. in 1993; and to MTR Gaming Group, Inc. in 1996. MTR Gaming Group is based in Chester, West Virgin
