SO YOU WANNA PLAY CRAPS PT. 2
Welcome back to the Craps table!
In part 1, we explained the basic rules of Craps.
Simply roll a number twice without rolling a seven and you have made a Pass and every bet on the Pass Line wins even money (Bet $5 win $5).
Today we reveal the “ODDS”.
Odds bets are placed directly behind your pass line bet or “Flat Bet”
What are the odds? How are they determined? Get out your calculator, we’re going to Vegas Baby!
The odds are based on the combination of ways a number can be rolled.
Let’s start with the basics.
Each Die has six sides with six different numbers on each side, 1 through 6.
If you only roll one die there are 6 possibilities.
If you use two dice, 11 numbers are possible. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12.
Think of a pair of dice as Die A and Die B.
There are three ways to roll a four. 1: A one on Die A and a three on Die B. 2: A three on Die A and a one on Die B. 3: A two on both dice.
There are six ways to roll a seven. 1: a one on Die A and a six on Die B. 2: a six on Die A and a one on Die B. 3: a two on Die A and a five on Die B. 4: a five on Die A and a two on Die B. 5: a three on Die A and a four on Die B. 6: a four on Die A and a three on Die B.
There are Six ways to make a Seven and Three ways to make a Four, 6 to 3 or 2 to 1.
Therefore, if your point is four, the odds are 2 to 1 you will roll a seven before you roll a four.
If you roll the four, your odds bet will be paid 2 to 1.
Consider this chart:
1. Two = 1+1
2. Three = 1+2, 2+1
3. Four = 1+3, 3+1,2+2
4. Five = 1+4, 4+1, 2+3, 3+2
5. Six = 1+5, 5+1, 2+4, 4+2, 3+3
6. SEVEN = 1+6, 6+1, 2+5, 5+2, 3+4, 4+3
5. Eight = 2+6, 6+2, 3+5, 5+3, 4+4
4. Nine = 3+6, 6+3, 4+5, 5+4
3. Ten = 6+4, 4+6, 5+5
2. Eleven = 5+6, 6+5
1. Twelve = 6+6
As you can see, there are 36 combinations. The odds of a twelve appearing is one out of thirty-six possibilities, whereas casinos pay 30 or 31 to 1 instead of 36 to 1.
The odds of rolling an eight before a seven are: six ways to make a seven and five ways to make an eight. Therefore, if your point is eight and you roll an eight before a seven, your odds are paid at a rate of 6 to 5. (Why does a point of 5&9 pay 3 to 2?)
These are called “Pass Line Odds” and are the ONLY wagers a Casino offers that pay “True Odds”(where the “House” does not have an advantage).
“Pass Line Odds”
4 and 10 pay 2 to 1
5 and 9 pay 3 to 2
6 and 8 pay 6 to 5
You can also place a bet on a number aptly called “Place Bets”
After a “Point” has been established, the player can make a “Place Bet” on any number except “Naturals”(Craps 2,3 and 12 and 7 or 11).
If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is rolled before a 7, the player will be paid as follows:
4 and 10 pay 9 to 5 – a $5 bet is paid $9
5 and 9 pay 7 to 5 - a $5 bet is paid $7
6 and 8 pay 7 to 6 – a $6 bet is paid $7
Field Bets: Your wager is good for one roll only. Field bets pay even money on all numbers, except 2 and 12, which pay double.
You only lose if the next roll is 5, 6, 7 or 8.
Hardways are when 4, 6, 8 or 10 are rolled in pairs. (For example, 2-2 is a Hard Four)
Hard 4 and 10 pay 7 to 1
Hard 6 and 8 pay 9 to 1
