THE LAS VEGAS SUPERSONICS?

Again, the Rumor Mill of the Las Vegas Strip is humming with the possibility of the Seattle Supersonics making Las Vegas their new home.
Oscar Goodman, Las Vegas’s “Bombay Gin” touting Mayor has been courting NBA commissioner David Stern for over a year now.
Unfortunately, Larry’s Las Vegas has learned that the most serious discussion between the two occurred during the NBA All-Star Game held this year in Las Vegas and it was not pretty. Larry’s Las Vegas’s understanding of the meeting was that Commissioner Stern outlined a number of pre conditions Las Vegas could ill afford. One condition LLV learned of, was Commissioner Stern’s insistence on the ban of all NBA betting in Las Vegas. A condition Las Vegas’s Casinos would vehemently oppose. Also learned by Larry’s Las Vegas, was the condition that Las Vegas builds a new multi-million dollar stadium. Would Las Vegas’s Casinos agree to help pay for a venture that would cost them millions of dollars annually? Not likely.
Although Commissioner Stern announced Friday that he would appoint a group to study the feasibility of having a NBA team in Las Vegas. Larry’s Las Vegas has learned that Supersonics owner Clayton Bennett, who hails from Oklahoma, has his sights set on Oklahoma City. In fact in a just released statement, Bennett was quoted as saying; “We have made it clear that we want to succeed in Seattle, and we are still exploring all of our options there”. “Of course, we know Oklahoma City, and we know what this remarkable marketplace can do based on the way it exceeded all expectations over the past two years. We have said all along, as has NBA commissioner David Stern, Oklahoma City deserves an NBA team, and, we would add, a WNBA team.”

However, while it is not widely known, Las Vegas’s Mayor Goodman’s jurisdiction ends near the Riviera Casino, about where the Las Vegas Strip begins. The City of Las Vegas is Goodman’s, while the county rules the Las Vegas Strip. Theoretically Mayor Goodman could persuade the struggling casinos of “The City of Las Vegas”, to ban NBA wagers and help build a stadium within City borders, but take it from Larry’s Las Vegas it won’t be the Super Sonics.
The more likely scenario would be a WNBA team in Downtown Las Vegas called, (What Else?) “The Las Vegas Strippers”.
You can bet www.larryslasvegas.com would be the first and best place to buy tickets to those home games.
